Why Travel Blogs Inspire and Educate
Travel blogs provide a window into the world of possibilities. You can offer first-hand insights and inspire others to travel to new places with some practical tips, which can fill the gap between dreaming about a destination and turning it into reality. That’s why travel blogs are always on trend, and people love to see what others are doing so they can enjoy their lives.
In fact, I found that apart from traveling, these blogs can make between $5 and $10k a month, which can help you fulfill your daily expenses as a traveler.
That is the main reason people love blogs on travel. (Travel + Income)
Benefits Of Travel Blogging
Travel Ideas: We can get fresh and unique ideas for destinations, find new gems to visit, and explore other options we sometimes skip. In short, it helps research destinations on what to do and where to go.
Income: As I said, Travel blogging is a huge market, and you can make good income along with traveling, making this method the best way to earn money.
Do You know? The Travel blogging or online travel market was valued at $600 billion in 2023, and it is growing at a CAGR of over 7% from 2024 to 2032, making it the most profitable niche.
In fact, if you are aware of Google’s recent updates, they have specifically started a travel subdomain(functionality) that shows that the travel market is one of the best options.
Okay, now I hope you understand the numbers behind the travel market, and we can now move to our next step, where I will guide you through how to start your own travel blog.
Then, we will go through some top blogs in the space raking up right now(2025) to get some inspiration and ideas on what they are doing right and what you should learn from their technique.
How to Start Your Own Travel Blog?
Starting a travel blog is an exciting journey that lets us share our adventures, connect with fellow travelers worldwide, and allow us to earn some income along with traveling.
It’s like a dream. Right! Earning money along with traveling to your favorite destinations. ( I also started my journey with a travel & photography blog in 2018.)
And if you are the one who loves to travel, then you can share your experience with the world so you can also make money while traveling.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a travel blog that stands out and grows with time.
Step 1: Find Your Niche
Starting a travel blog is too easy. You just have to find your Niche in the traveling space as it is too vast regarding topics, and it determines the overall success of your online journey.
Yes, the travel space is too broad, and choosing its sub-niche is the best option that I can recommend if you want to start with a low budget.
To find a niche for your blog, you must figure out your unique angle, like being personal and asking questions.
– What are your passions for solo, duo, or group travel?
– Ask what you can afford: luxury trips, budget adventures, or family-friendly destinations.
There are 10 categories, and in those categories, I tried to explain some sub-niches so that you can get practical knowledge rather than just random selection.
So you can go through the post.
After selection, we can now move to the next step: choosing the right blogging platform.
Step 2: Pick the Right Blogging Platform
For blogging platforms, go with WordPress CMS as it is the most popular Content Management System, hosting over 43% of the worldwide websites on its platform. It is an open-source, free platform that is best for SEO.
With WordPress, you can increase your blog’s functionality with a wide range of plugins, making it one of the best, easy-to-use platforms.
Alternatively, Wix or Squarespace are some other beginner-friendly options.
Step 3: Get a Domain Name and Hosting
OK, after deciding what platform you are going with now, we can focus on our branding and technical stuff like hosting.
Again, after Niche selection, Domain name, and hosting are the second crucial part of blogging as you decide on a domain name that will reflect your Niche and brand for years.
Think before selection and experiment to come up with some unique ideas.
If you ask me, I will have my niche keyword in my domain name for SEO and brand credibility.
Here are some other points to consider when selecting a domain name:
- Keep your domain name shorter (Under 15 characters)
- Include your Niche Keyword(Like www.travelwith….com etc)
- Make it easy to remember.
- Use top-level domain extensions like Com and Net.
For hosting, you can go with three officially recommended hosting provider companies through WordPress.org.
There are many other hosting options, but it is wise to opt for what WordPress recommends.
OK, we are now done with the domain name and hosting, so let’s learn how to design your blog for good rankings.
Step 4: Design Your Blog (Basic Tips)
Designing is the main step after hosting your website, as we have to make our blog clean, mobile-friendly, and fast to load, as all these factors can affect your rankings on search engines.
It all depends on your blog theme and hosting plan, so customize it for speed.
Also, make sure to choose a theme that perfectly aligns with your brand and choose color combinations so that people love to spend time on your blog and get a good experience on it.
Now you can include essential pages like “About Me,” “Contact,” and “Blog Categories” for easy navigation.
Make sure to align all the elements with your theme, like the color combination of the post’s thumbnails, anchor links, navigation bar, buttons, etc.
After designing, we can write blog posts(our personal experiences) on our blog.
Step 5: Create Quality Content
Writing blog content is the most crucial part nowadays as people are searching for experienced-based blogs rather than informational ones.
In short, after these Google updates, I found a pattern in SERP results that people are now willing to read personal experience-based blogs rather than organizations hiring writers to write their posts.
For travel blogs, you have to be conversational with your readers like we do while chatting with someone. This will increase your engagement rates on the blog and eventually lead to a high ranking as people love your content, which is the most crucial ranking factor.
Make sure to include all the necessary points a reader should know when you visit a place so that they can know from your experience.
Try to write Engaging, informative, and visually appealing posts filled with your personally taken images for authority and trust. You can also use SEO best practices for writing content to make it discoverable on all the search engines.
OK, I hope you now know how to write blog posts for your travel blog; after publishing the posts, you have to promote those posts to all social media platforms to get traffic on them.
Step 6: Promote Your Blog on Social Media
Creating a blog and writing content aimlessly is not enough to make money; the primary source of making money is increasing traffic on your blog.
The more traffic you get (page views), the more you earn.
So there are many ways to bring traffic to a blog, but for beginners, I recommend using social media platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter (X) to reach a wider audience at your beginning.
Also, invest in SEO, but starting with social media is the best strategy I can recommend to increase your traffic. I would be at a 30:70% ratio. Like in the beginning, invest 30% on SEO and 70% on Social Media.
you can share captivating travel photos and videos(long & short, depending on the platform) and, link back those to your blog posts, and redirect that traffic to your blog.
Also, engage with your followers to build a strong community.
Step 7: Monetize Your Blog
Once you’ve built an audience, explore monetization options like affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, or selling digital products, digital ads, etc.
Focus on partnerships that align with your niche to maintain authenticity. Niche-related partnership is the key to fast success in all types of blogs, so make sure to think twice when collaborating with some third-party brand.
Here are some monetization ways for travel blogs:
- Affiliate marketing
- Display ads
- brand partnerships(collaboration with hotels, homestays etc)
- Selling your own digital products(like travel guides, PDFs, ebooks, etc)
- Online Courses
- Membership and Subscription for Premium members of your community.
- Merchandise: You can sell your brand’s t-shirts, mugs, travel gear, etc.
- Sponsored Social Media Posts
These are some ways to monetize a travel blog ideally, as you can opt for all the options above at once or choose between those that best suit your blog. However, try to start with Display ads by Google Adsense and use affiliate marketing as a must-have option. Then, proceed with other options.

How do you come up with travel ideas to write about?
You have to be creative to find out some ideas, so let’s know what to write about in a travel blog.
What to Write in a Travel Blog: My Top 6 Ideas
Here, I will tell you my six personal ways of thinking blogging ideas for becoming a professional traveler, and I will guide you in making an excellent post to attract people to your post and also help with the proper SEO of your post.
Idea 1: Kick Off Your Travel Blog by Exploring Your Local Area
Starting your blog from your local area is very good if you are missing some ideas. We can get lots of benefits from this.
Exploring the place from a nearby well in your local area can be a good starting strategy. It has many benefits, such as
- You will get many ideas to write about your local area.(local restaurants, parks, lakes, or other places to visit/explore)
- You will have so much knowledge about your local area that you can write about it and present it well and entertainingly in front of the world.
- You will already have many good pictures of those places, so adding images to your post can help increase your engagement and trust in your blog.
Now you must bring a copy and write your entire experience.
Outline your entire experience and publish it as a blog. Your post will start ranking in a few days because nowadays, people want to explore a new place, and there is no better way than this.
Idea 2: Share Stories from Your Past Holidays
Remember your past holidays, and write a blog post about how you visited a particular destination, what transport is best to choose, etc.
You can also add your school and college trip experience to your blog.
For travel blogs, you can focus more on pictures because pictures can tell more than words. Your visitors can also feel that feeling from your HD pictures.
You can tell all about your journeys and share some pictures that will make your blog more attractive.
Idea 3: Embark on a Small Trip to Create Fresh Content
If neither of your ideas works, you must leave the house and go to any of the nearest places to make a collection of videos and pictures.
Now, update these photos and videos on your blog post.
In a few days, traffic will start on the blog, but try to publish those pics and videos on your social media accounts.
Idea 4: Visit Popular Destinations and Share Your Experiences
If your blog is getting traffic now, then you can go to many popular places if you can afford it. It will make your audience come back to your blog again and again. Exploring new places is the best way to grow your travel blog. People wish to go to these places if they get proper guidance.
You can guide them well by explaining the journeys in your blog.
But what if you want to start a travel blog but don’t want to travel?
Here is the answer…
Idea 5: Create Travel Content from the Comfort of Home
You can also run your blog on travel from home, but the key to success from home blogging is in your hands now, I mean your writing skills.
Yes! Your writing skills can attract visitors to your blog on travel.
Specifically you have to master storytelling and use stock images and pictures of the places you are reviewing in your blog post.
As I said in travel blogging, images play a major role, so you have to be creative when creating/editing images, as they should reflect your presence in those destinations.
You can attach pictures from Google, but in that case, you have to credit that picture to the website from where you saved it.
Idea 6: Gather Travel Inspiration from Your Friends
You can also publish your blog post by writing with the help of your friends.
If you don’t love to travel but need travel ideas, I found one way: think of your relatives and friends who love to travel or recently went on a trip. Ask them about their favorite destinations, hidden gems, or travel tips. Their stories and experiences can provide you with plenty of ideas for writing engaging and informative content for your travel blog.
After that, write about their journey in your own words, and the post will surely go viral because of the combination of two different experiences.
This is a creative way to find ideas for a blog. I hope these ideas will help you with your travel blog.
Advantages of Travel Blogging
There are many advantages in this domain. You only have to do hard work in the beginning. If your blog starts gaining many visitors daily, you can get many chances to be sponsored by many companies.
