The Best Part?
I’m going to show you the step-by-step process of choosing a niche that matches your interest and take some help from analytical tools to future-proof their potential.
In short, you’ll love this guide if you want the perfect niche for your business.
Let’s get started.
What is a Niche?
A niche is a specific segment of a market or a subset of a particular field where individuals focus on a particular kind of product or service.
Simply put, when we focus on a specific group of individuals with distinct needs, preferences, or characteristics, we call it niching down.
Today, the world of digital marketing is very crowded, and if you want to stand out from this crowd, you have to choose your specific niche, which you can focus on, a particular target audience.
We will also discuss some of the benefits of niching down, so please read the post theoretically for a better understanding.
How to find your niche?
Finding an industry for your business is the most crucial part, and I am here to help you find your industry of interest. Here’s a step-by-step process to help you:
Step1: Evaluate your Passion & Skills
Yes, the first and the most crucial step is to self-access your Passion and skills; this will help you to succeed fast and stand out of the crowd.
To do this you have to ask yourself some questions, like what do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies? Do you love gardening, playing games, or experimenting with fashion & accessories? It’s up to you.
And to make this practical here is the theoretical practice that i recommend you to do with me.
Practical example:
You have to come up with a topic within your Passion & skill, like for me, I love doing garden stuff to eat organic veggies from my home garden, so follow the steps along with me.
List 20 topics in your selected topic: As I choose “Garden” then my duty is to take a copy and pen, and list 20 topics ideas that i can demonstrate or guide others in my niche and the goal is to solve someone’s problems.
Here is the example what i can think of right now:
- How to grow coriander at home.
- Coriander benefits.
- Where does coriander grow best?
- Season & soil to grow coriander.
- Does coriander need full sun?
And So on up-to 20 topics.
This is how you can find your niche in your Passion because your knowledge is the key to grow fast if you want to start a blog, YouTube channel, TikTok, or any other online business
Don’t rush for things that other content creators tell you. Choose this topic or that topic; this can help you earn some money but not help you grow as a brand. To grow as a brand, you must be yourself to make authority in your niche.
If you can list 20 ideas in your interest or hobby niche, then you might have 5-10 more topics in your mind.
Now, if you have more than one hobby, then you can follow the same steps for your other hobby and list those topics.
For me, I can also start a YouTube channel with a blog for my second hobby, which is Gaming.
So I can list 20 topics on paper and start following the second step.
Tip: If you are considering Video Based Content then you don't have to worry about competition, Competition is only for SEO in blogging.
Step2: Niching Down
After selecting the niche, our next step is to find its sub-niche so that we don’t have to face high competition for our blogs; yes, as I said, there is no competition in video format content, but to rank on search engines, you have to narrow down.
Another benefit of narrowing down is that you can build authority faster than broad niches because you cover all aspects of one sub-niche, which can help you get good engagement from your viewers.
This is the future strategy and you can become a Personal brand faster.
Example:
In the Garden niche I can focus on Indoor gardening, or the other option would be like roof gardening. Meaning that how to grow veggies on roof or in house because the maximum population out there are interested in sustainable and space-efficient gardening solutions.
Step3: Evergreen Potential
Evergreen Potential of a niche means that if the niche you have chosen has consistency in search or not. You have to figure out that your selected niche is seasonal or evergreen.
As an illustrative example, I have chosen ‘Garden’ as my niche. Within the garden niche, although plants exhibit seasonality, the overall niche remains evergreen due to a continuous year-round demand for garden-related queries. This strategic selection facilitates the generation of consistent traffic to both my blog and YouTube channel.
To test your niche evergreen potential you can use Google trends and filter results to last 5 years and select countries tab to “worldwide”. The graph will help you to understand the niche.
Step4: Niche Market Size
For a thorough market size analysis, our blog serves as a comprehensive resource. I’ve covered numerous niches and compiled data from various statistical sources. The needed information is already in our blog posts, and for additional insights, exploring platforms like Statista is recommended.
The other way to check is to go through the profiles and businesses of your competitors, like you can check their posts virality, their follower base on their social media accounts and get traffic stats of their websites with Tools like Semrush.
This can help you to understand that ok your competitors are making a particular type of content and its working for them, then you can also succeed by mimicking their approach in your selected topic.
Step5: Validate your Niche
It’s also essential to validate your sub-niche to know better what your target audience is searching for and what to do to better engage with the audience.
There are two ways to validate your niche.
1. Tool-Based Niche Validation Analysis:
To analyze your niche, You have to open Semrush in one tab, Google Trends in another, and Google Keyword Planner in the third tab of your browser.
Why Semrush?
Because they have a good UI, and even a new individual can understand the stats. The main feature I love about Semrush is that it’s free for 14 days, and you can do about six months of research in your free trial.
It’s a value-for-money tool and helps you get premium stats about your niche and keywords(topics) in which you will work.
Now, copy the First Topic(from step 1), paste it into all three search tools, and analyze it for its traffic number and seasonality trends(of 5 years).
If you see the traffic number is high and trends are constant, you can finalize those topics to your content plan.
This is how you can finalize your topics to create content. For competitor analysis, you can follow these steps.
2. Competitor-Centric Niche Validation
To analyze your competitor, you must first go to their official social media account and website.
You can find topics with millions of views and list those topics in your content plan.
Another way is to go to their website, paste their URL into Semrush, and hit enter. This will help you to get the list of their most successful content that brings traffic to their website, and you can do the same and list those keywords and topics in your content plan.
This is how you can gather content ideas for your business. Whether it is a blog or a YouTube channel, you can copy their keywords, which have done well for them, and make the updated version of that topic with your personal flavor to get good engagement from your audience.
But the key is to add something new, some trick, some strategy than the previous content to add value for your users.
These are the top ways to help you build your content plan for years.
Step6: Test your niche
Now we are done with all the steps, it is time to test your niche, and after building tens of websites and YouTube channels, I found that 30 is the magic number for any type of content you publish.
If you want to test your niche for your website, I recommend you publish more than 30 well-written, SEO-friendly articles to know if it will bring traffic with money or not.
Same goes with Video based content. If you want to know if your selected niche is good enough for video-based content, whether it is YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram Reels, you have to publish 30 short-form videos, and for a YouTube channel, publish 30 long-form videos to know whether you can go with that niche, or you have to shift to another.
Yes, after publishing those 30 pieces of content, you will get an idea of what your audience wants from you, and you can then shift to that type of content and focus on producing the content your audience likes.
But I recommend you make at least 30 pieces of content for every format you like, then decide based on user engagement and traffic stats to your social media and website.
This is how you can test your niche for your upcoming business.
Step7: Monetization Opportunities
When selecting a niche, knowing how to monetize your traffic source for the best possible earnings is crucial. After all, the main goal of starting a business is to make money from it.
So you can go to your competitors, like your top competitors, and start mimicking their monetization strategies.
For example, visit your niche’s top content creator account on TikTok and Instagram. Then check what their profile looks like; also, go through their profile link, which is the main source of their earnings.
Yes, we engineers call this Reverse engineering, which means just reversing the method of your competitors to know what is working for them and what’s not.
Reverse engineering is the method used for content plan monetization techniques, so you can go to their profiles, go through their links, and just analyze what they are selling and what type of content.
That’s it. There is no complex method to find monetization ways. You just have to copy your competitors to know their methods.
