How To Increase Traffic On The Website [SEO, Paid & More]

There’s nothing quite as frustrating as pouring your heart and soul into a website only to see traffic trickling in at a snail’s pace.

Trust me, I’ve been there!

When I first started blogging, I made many mistakes, like ignoring SEO basics in my initial phase, neglecting social media promotion, and hoping traffic would magically appear. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. But with time and patience (trial and error) and lots of coffee-fueled nights, I learned the strategies that actually work.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through proven methods to drive more traffic to your website – whether you are new to this world or trying to gain some traffic to your existing website, I’ll explain each method in detail so that anyone can follow them easily.

So, let’s turn your website into the magnet it was always meant to be for visitors.

Why Diversifying Traffic Sources is Essential?

Traffic on websites can help you build your brand and increase sales for your business, and diversifying traffic can help reduce dependency on a single source, ensuring stability and sustained growth.

Have you heard the term “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”? The same goes for traffic sources. You can’t rely on one single traffic source, as it can suddenly go down or become less effective, leaving your business vulnerable. Diversifying traffic sources ensures stability and keeps your website thriving even if one channel falters.

For example, If you solely rely on organic traffic with SEO and one day Google and other search engines try to change their algorithm all of a sudden, then this can happen to your website overnight.

Yes, the screenshot above is of the blog you are reading, and this happened to me after the March core update by Google. They ruin all my web traffic without even giving me a chance.

That is why diversifying traffic sources is important.

Increasing Traffic with SEO

Let’s first know the widely known methods of increasing website traffic: SEO and search engine optimization.

Keyword Research (KD)

Keyword research is the first step towards success in the SEO game, where our goal is to find low-effort keywords to rank on search engines.

In simple terms, with less competitive keyword scores on SEO tools like SemRush and Ubersuggest, your article can rank easily on the search engine.

Both their tools are my favorite because you can use them for free and access their premium database by signing up for 2 to 5 trials a day.

The basic rule is to choose a keyword with a high search volume of 100 to 200 monthly visitors but less than five search engine difficulty(KD; keyword difficulty) scores on these tools.

Target Long-Tail Keywords

Also, you can target long-tail keywords.

Long-tail keywords are those whose length is between 4 and 5 words when they are searched on search engines.

For example, the article you are reading is a prime example of a long tail as it includes 5 to 6 keywords that can be searched on Google.

For example, “How do you increase traffic on the website?” The longer the keyword is, the more specific the intent will be. For this keyword, people are searching for deriving traffic on the website.

Searchers want answers to this specific question rather than general responses.

So you can target long-tail keywords to get better & faster results.

On-Page SEO

Writing quality articles and proper on-page SEO elements in those posts can help us with rankings.

The main elements of the page are the Title and description meta tags, and you have to give proper time for each post because search engines read these tags to determine your post.

So prioritize these tags in your SEO campaigns and ensure each post/page on websites has these tags.

The second most important tag is headings. you have to use Heading tags strategically(H1, H2, H3) as per your post/page requirements.

Then focus on The URL structure(SEO-Friendly URLs) of your pages and the Image alt text, as there are the remaining elements that you should focus on.

Off-Page SEO

After doing On-Page, you can focus on Building quality backlinks for your website. Backlinks?

What are those, right?

Backlinks are hyperlinks from other websites to your website as a vote, and search engines use these links as a ranking factor; that’s why backlinks are essential. Backlinks can increase your website’s authority as you increase the quality and quantity of links to your website, which will benefit you in the long run.

We understand that backlinks are important for ranking, but building backlinks is the most challenging part. There are two ways of earning backlinks.

  • One is organic: someone likes your content and links back to you.
  • Second is paid: you pay another site owner to link back to your site.
  • Third is guest posting: where you write articles for other website owners and place links to your websites.

These are some ways you can build backlinks to your website.

After building, we now have to monitor good and bad backlinks as bad ones can lead to penalties, so we should use web tools to monitor these and check those linking websites.

Website Speed and Performance

Website speed is one of the most crucial ranking factors that Google has prioritized in recent years; in fact, they have provided specific functionality to monitor your website speed in your Google search console tool(webmaster tool by Google).

If your site speed is good, visitors will love to come back to your site because of its friendly interface and speed, but if your site is slow, visitors, as well as Google, will start ignoring your blog.

That is harmful to your blog. The less time your website takes to load, the better it is at loading traffic to your site.

The loading time of your site should be short; this means that your site will load fast, and the visitor who opens your site will be able to visit your site faster.

Hosting plays an important role in the speed of your site, so try to choose a dedicated server with a high configuration that will automatically improve your core web vitals scores(provided by Google).

So, go with the best hosting providers if you want a traffic boost to your website.

Here are some points to consider:

  1. Enhance Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS).
  2. Reduce Image Sizes with Compression Tools.
  3. Enable Browser Caching and Minifying Code.

Try to optimize for these points and see the magic; search engines will start liking your website after optimizing for these points.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO is all about fixing technical errors on your website. There are hundreds of technical SEO errors, and I have gathered a list of 110 such issues.

Recently, I got hit hard by Google Updates, and it’s hard to find out why they tanked my website; that is why I listed all the possible technical errors on a website and tried to find out which one, in my case, is affecting my ranking.

If you are interested in how I am recovering my blog with all those research points, then you can subscribe and download that PDF document to your email inbox.

But yes, apart from that, you should focus on these errors from day one so that you don’t have to face such an issue as I am facing right now(late 2024).

In my case everything is fine but I neglected link building, have some technical seo errors and some other issue that i am fixing right now, and my blog is showing some positive signs.

So subscribe to my journey and know those steps that are helping me to get out of it.

You can also focus on:

  • Fixing Crawl Errors in Google Search Console
  • Implementing Structured Data (Schema Markup)
  • Ensuring Mobile-Friendliness

Increasing with Content Marketing

As its name indicates, when we try to increase traffic to our website or specifically to any product through content marketing, It can be any form of content like written, visual, podcasts, etc.

  • Written: Blogs, emails, tweets, posts, etc.
  • Visual: Short-form videos, long-form videos, infographics, images, etc.
  • Podcasts: Podcasts or workshops, etc.

So, let’s explore some options that you can opt for your website so that you can bring traffic to it and generate some qualified sales for your product or services.

Blogging

Blogging is one of the best ways to bring traffic to your website. You can start a subfolder on your website with blogs related to your target product/services. This can help you bring in some good traffic that might be interested in your product, which can lead to high profits for your organization.

Make sure to write high-quality, evergreen content targeting or closely related to your product so that you can redirect that organic traffic to your sales page and make some qualified sales.

Creating listicles and how-to guides is the best approach, and then regularly update your old content to maintain relevance as per current dates.

This way, you can increase traffic to your website without spending much on anything, as it is the best and most complimentary way to bring traffic.

Video Content

For video content, you can choose whatever platform you want or one that perfectly suits your audience, as people are interested in different social media platforms for different types of content. So you can choose according to your niche.

Try to start with tutorials and Explainer videos, and then you can proceed with info videos. Starting with info videos at the start can lead to low engagement rates as you are not popular enough to get high-duration time on your videos.

Then, you can embed those videos into your blog posts for engagement, which can help you redirect your traffic to your website and vice versa.

I recommend you use YouTube and TikTok as your starting point and then figure out which platform suits your niche best.

Visual Content

Visual content is also the best option as it is more popular than written content nowadays, especially since people love AI-generated visual images and videos more than written content. However, written content is equally important when it comes to generating sales, as people like to read things before buying anything.

Also, you can focus on infographics and AI images your audience can share. You can use Canva to create engaging visuals and then optimize those images for search by adding alt text to your website.

Email Marketing

Email marketing remains one of the most cost-effective and reliable ways to drive traffic to your website. You can create email drip campaigns so that your email subscribers can visit your website frequently directly from their email inbox.

You can also start your daily newsletter or send it to your subscribers. Try to do this in two different categories, like having two different lead magnets to catch emails from daily or weekly interested subs.

If someone wants to get daily emails, subscribe to the daily one, and the same goes for weekly. This way, you can build a professional email list interested in your emails, leading to better engagement rates.

Increasing Traffic with Social Media

Organic Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is today’s most popular way for businesses to drive traffic to their websites. They are utilizing all popular social media platforms, from YouTube to Instagram, and posting consistently across all these platforms so that they can increase their brand awareness globally.

You can leverage trends like stories and reels for Instagram and YouTube shorts on YouTube, and the same goes with other platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter, as they are now also giving the option to upload short-form content.

Try to engage with your followers on a personal level through comments and polls. This way, you will increase their trust in your brand.

Paid Social Media Marketing

Paid social media marketing is when you run paid ads on these social media platforms to reach new people or target people for your campaign. For this, you can use platforms like Facebook and Instagram, as they are widely used and target specific audiences in your campaigns.

Set your daily or weekly budget for cost-effective campaigns and retarget things that have worked fine for you in the past. Learn from past campaigns and make changes accordingly.

This way, you can send social media paid traffic to your website.

Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is when you hire an influence with a good following in your niche to promote your product, and in return, you pay them a commission or monthly fee. Influencer marketing depends on the individual’s follower base and the view count they receive on each video.

You can collaborate with many influencers in your niches, track your ROI(Return on Investment) for running successful campaigns, and also offer affiliate partnerships to these influencers so that they can make some commission per sale for their qualified sales.

This way, you can have a higher ROI than when you make monthly or weekly payments.

Increasing Traffic with Other Methods

Referral Traffic

Referral traffic is also one of the best and most engaging targeted traffic to your website. You can leverage affiliate marketing programs to get qualified traffic to your sales pages.

Build your own affiliate system and allow other creators to join your affiliate programs to promote products or services.

Please provide them with all the promotional material and also offer high commissions per sale as it can help you to make some good income for years.

Try to list your business in online directories so that you can reach a global audience and introduce your business to them. Also, you can go with CTA programs where you can give some commission for click per action as it can be a simple sign-up or newsletter subscriber for your business.

Paid Advertising

Paid advertising is straightforward. You can choose any one platform for running ads and send that traffic to your selected website. The most popular platform is Google Ads. By running Google Ads Campaigns, you can target a worldwide audience for particular keywords you want to rank for in SERP results, email ads, etc.

Another trending option is exploring programmatic advertising options, and here’s what I mean: you can publish content on programmatic websites with colossal authority and traffic and link back to your website. This way, you can use programmatic SEO for your website.

Community Engagement

Community engagement means you can participate in niche-specific forums and engage with the audience there to redirect that traffic to your website.

The best example is that you can start a subreddit for your niche on Reddit or answer questions on Quora so that people know your brand and come back to your website again and again to find solutions for that specific niche.

Join Facebook, start a page and group related to your industry, and post content there, as people are utilizing these platforms better for external traffic.

Leveraging Analytics

Now, we can understand our website’s performance through analytical tools like Google Analytics to check traffic stats and user engagement.

Some other options are Hotjar, crazy egg, and Microsoft Clarity, which offers a heat map tool by which you can gain valuable insights into how visitors interact with your website and where improvements are needed.

By analyzing your website’s traffic and heat maps, you can make essential improvements and fix all those errors responsible for low engagement.

Wrap up!

So these are some of the most popular methods to boost website traffic, and focusing on them can help you diversify your traffic, as diversifying is the key to success in this digital world. (After these core updates by search engines)

Don’t rely solely on one traffic source; try to work on all the above methods simultaneously.

Second, you should focus more on written content with SEO, as it is the evergreen traffic source if done correctly. You must make your content/articles reader-friendly so your audience can understand and interact with you on your website. It helps you to build trust with your audience.

Now try to include/embed videos and images that help improve your website engagement rates and capture your visitor’s email from day one of starting your website.

Build a great email list by which you can send notifications to your subscribers in the future.

Try to also focus on building website backlinks, as it can help you increase your authority, which can further lead to high rankings in SERP results.
